Prétérit : action passée, datée, terminée

present perfect: a eu lieu dans le passé mais dure encore

1) Mr Joe Biden was the Vice-President of the USA for 8 years.

( Biden était le vice président d'Obama pendant 8 ans, c'est passé => prétérit)

2) Mr Emmanuel Macron has been President of France for three and

. He was elected in May 2017.

( Emmanuél Macron est toujours président ==> present perfect )

3) Queen Elizabeth II has been Queen of the United Kingdom

for sixty-seven years.

( La reine Elizabeth II , est reine depuis 67 ans, comme Emmanuel Macron, c'est toujours vrai ==> present perfect )

4) Mr Nicolas Sarkozy was President of France for 5 years

between 2012 and 2017.

( Nicolas Sarkozy ... n'est plus président, il l'était. C'est du passé => prétérit )

5) Queen Victoria was Queen of the United Kingdom for sixty-three years and seven months.

( La reine Victoria a été reine pendant 63 ans, mais elle ne l'est plus => passé donc prétérit. ) (Victoria était l'arrière grand-mère d'Elizabeth II )
